RICHARD LANE’S 2025/26 ROUND UP

Abacus Lighting Central Midlands Alliance League Premier Division and County Cup Roundup – November 1

The Notts and Derbyshire FA County Cups almost wiped out the Camper UK Premier Divisions this week. Almost but not quite. There were five matches in the Camper UK Premier North with the majority of the teams based in South Yorkshire. The top four all gained maximum points, Dinnington Town justremaining at the top after a 3-1 win at SJR Worksop. They had a profitableopening half, the game sparking into life in the 26th minute, Jack Cully opening the scoring, Tom Bishop doubling the lead a minute later. Cameron Evans made it three after 41 minutes leaving SJR with a mountain to climb. They made it to base camp with a goal after 71 minutes, but couldn’t get any further before time ran out. Kinsley Boys are just one goal behind after another 3-1 win, this time against Burngreave United. It took 35 minutes for Kinsley to take the lead through Bradley Dockerty, Burngreave equalising almost immediately, the goalcoming from Jake Morrison before Jack White gave the visitors the lead again with 41 played. The destination of the points remained in the balance until ten minutes from the end, when Lucas Stubbs delivered the killer blow. Brodsworth Main played their first home game under their new name, finally overcoming a tenacious Elite AFC 2-0. The hosts withstood considerable early pressure before taking the lead in the 25th minute Callum Stockton the scorer. The second half saw both keepers bringing off excellent saves before Stockton again struck in the 68th minute to clinch the win. Harworth Colliery scored four times in the last 25 minutes in their 5-0 defeat of RHP Sports. There was precious little between the teams in the first half, the visitors unlucky to reach the interval a goal behind, Rob Singer scoring after 24 minutes. Harworth had used long, flatthrow-ins very effectively, their second goal in the 65th minute coming from one of them converted by Billy Stafford. This was followed by an eight minute spellin which Harworth added three further goals, Singer getting his second after 77 minutes, Callum Edwards  adding two in the closing minutes, the final scorelinerather harsh on the visitors. Glapwell travelled to the new look Phoenix and took a well deserved lead, Tony Evans the scorer, on 25 minutes, which they held until three minutes after half time when Kevin Isingoma put away the equaliser. Glapwell were back in front in the 79th minute with a goal from Oscar Bannister, but two minutes later the scores were again level, Danny Fisherensuring a share of the points for the hosts.                                                         The Premier South Division was reduced to a single match, leaders Graham Street Prims increasing their advantage to nine points over their rivals who have games in hand but I imagine would rather have points in the bag. Prims seem to have acquired the useful habit of scoring early goals which was the case in their clash with Holbrook Sports. It took just two minutes for Aaron Harvey to put the home side in front and only five more for Brad Daly to equalise and two more for Breeyan Grainger to put Prims in front again. Alex Seale extended thelead on 20 minutes, and that remained the score at half time. Holbrook put the pressure on, Harry Chiarelli reducing the gap to a single goal, but couldn’t find another, Prims holding on for the 3-2 win.

And so to the 23 County Cup ties. Beginning with Derbyshire’s Divisional Cups, the North section proved successful, all four matches ending in wins for our teams. Sleetmoor United won 4-1 at Buxworth, with Morgan Booth scoring two, Oliver Hallam and Rowan Kelly also on the scoresheet. Rowsley 86 needed penalties to see off Chapel Town following a 3-3 draw, Jacob Hodgson, Aaron Eyre and Marcel Deichmann, the scorers with the shootout ending 5-4 in Rowsley’s favour. The other two ties were all CMAL affairs. Cromford & Wirksworth Town beat AFC Normanton 3-1, all three goals coming from set pieces, finished off twice by Joe Bean twice and Ben Cartwright. Wirksworth Ivanhoe overwhelmed Shirebrook Soldiers 7-1, a Tom Mellor hat trick backed up by a Ewan Sutherill double, Sam Smith and Lewis Higton.                                                                                                                             The Divisional Cup South is usually a cert for the CMAL as we supply nearly all of the teams. All eight of yesterday’s second round matches went to our clubs, the outcome could already be decided. Punjab United thumped Heanor Reserves 5-0 with NiallWaters scoring four, Kirk Francis with the other one. Derby Singh Brothers had to struggle to get past Inter Belper, finally squeezing through with a Tyler Johal goal. Melbourne Dynamo , Newhall United 3-1, the reliable Jack Goodband with two and Tyler Withers one. The equally reliable Jamie Laird inspired Mickleover Athletic’s 3-2 defeat of Baobab United scoring all three of Athletic’s goals. Penalties separated Mickleover RBL and FC Sunnyhill after 90 minutes failed to produce a goal, Sunnyhill going through 4-2 from the spot. Adam Clark’s goal couldn’t prevent Ripley Town exiting the competition, visitors Rising Stars going through 2-1. Holbrook St Michaels advanced to the next round, coasting to a 5-1 win against Stapenhill Reserves.

The Notts FA Senior Trophy threw up one or two total mismatches, inevitable in a competition which covers four or five levels. Ollerton Town thumped nine past the South Notts Youth Team keeper, a result which will benefit neither side. Ollerton’s scorers were Elliott Nunn (3), Barnaby Smith (2), Ashley McEwan, Keegan Burton, Cameron Manning and an own goal. Blidworth Welfare won 9-1 at Phoenix Athletic, rather a surprise as at half time the sides were level at 1-1. On target for Blidworth were Archie Ward with four, Tris Burrell (3) , George Dyson and James Prentice. Selston managed seven against East Leake Robins Reserves  thanks to Dale Fairfield and Connor Ward with two each, Henley Hayward, Tom Batterham and Liam Taylor. A poor day for Ashland Rovers, their first team and reserves losing to AJ Sport Reserves and Collingham Reserves respectively. Linby Colliery were up against Arnold Reserves, the final score 5-1 with goals from Zach Hamilton, Rory Smith, Spencer Pollitt, Ashdon Bernard and Will Knowles. Arnold’s first team were pushed all the way by Kirton Brickworks, who were unlucky to go out 3-2. Division One East leaders Newark Town Reserves went down 3-1 at home to Notts Senior League Third division side AFC Parabellum. Josh Parfitt and Rocco Harvey each scored twice to give Teversal a 4-1 win against Woodthorpe Park Rangers. Jordan Ingram’s brace of goals wasn’t enough to give them a win against Collingham, the final score 4-2.

Abacus Lighting Central Midlands Alliance League Premier Division Roundup – October 25th

The one midweek game this week came in the Sheffield Senior Cup, Kinsley Boys giving a great account of themselves against Northern Premier League side Emley. Kinsley went in front with a goal from Lucas Stubbs, the same player putting his side further ahead with a penalty just before half time. Kinsley were reduced to ten men early in the second half, Emley taking advantage as they pulled a goal back. Under increasing pressure, the hosts held on until stoppage time when the equaliser took the tie to penalties., Emley coming through 4-1.

The weekend action began with Friday night’s game in the Camper UK Premier South Division, Holbrook Sports beating second placed Borrowash Victoria 2-0. Kevin Morrow put them ahead on 21 minutes, the result in doubt until nine minutes from time when Archie Mayer made the points safe. Graham Street Prims took full advantage of Borrowash’s slip, opening up a six-point lead over Selston who moved into second place. They caught visitors FC Sunnyhillcold, Sam Simpson’s 2nd minute goal was followed three minutes later by a second from Alex Seale. Sam Morgan gave them a three-goal half time lead, Sunnyhill pulling one back in the second half. Selston made it six league wins on the bounce, but found Holbrook St Michaels a handful, their winninggoal not arriving until the 88th minute. George Layton had scored, four minutes from half time, Holbrook levelling early in the second half, the draw looking likely until Liam Taylor’s late winner. Melbourne Dynamo gave their goal difference a boost as they continued as they inflicted anotherheavy defeat on a struggling Mansfield Hosiery Mills, the final score 5-0 with Jack Griffiths scoringtwice, Jack Goodband, Tyler Withers and Ben Gowing also finding the net. Cromford & Wirksworth Town drew 1-1, Spencer Pollitt’s 53rdminute goal for Linby cancelled out two minutes later by Steve Mallinder. Gresley Rovers Reserveswere 2-0 winners at Bakewell Town, Sub Cameron Briscoe (65 minutes) and Davis Komney (73) with the goals.

Derby Singh Brothers took the final place in the second round of the Buckingham Insurance League Cup, eliminating Mickleover Athletic on penalties. Mario Gomez gave Singhs a half time lead, Mickleover equalising in the second half, the shootout won by Singhs 4-3.

County Cups reduced the number of fixtures in the Premier North to just four. A surprise scoreline at Kinsley Boys who subsided to a 6-1 defeat against Hatfield Town. Callum Verhees opened the scoring after 10 minutes. Despite having the better of the opening half, the scores were level by the break, Nathan Harrop equalising in the 38th minute. It took just two minutes of the second half for Joe Smith to restore Hatfield’s lead, three goals in seven minutes killed the game off, Callum Stockton’s 59th minute goal, followed by one from Clayton Cherowbrierfour minutes later, Stockton blasting home numberfive on 66 minutes, the final goal coming in the final minute, Cherowbrier scoring his second. The new regime at AFC Phoenix got off to a winning start, beating a threadbare RHP side 4-1 at the YMCA. They were two up at the interval, Danny Fisher responsible for both goals. Fisher completed his hat trick midway through the second before Lewis Biltonfinally got one past the Phoenix keeper who made a number of excellent saves, only for Cole Whitham to restore the lead to three in added time. Staveley Reserves completed a 4-0 win at home to RossingtonMain Reserves thanks to a goal apiece from Alex Coates, Louis Hall, Jamie Millar and Michael Wilsonwhile Worksop Town Reserves had a 2-0 win at home to Glapwell, both goals from Oli Connors in the 18th and 36th minutes, the visitors unable to find the net despite having the upper hand in the second half.

Dinnington Town and Elite AFC progressed into the third round of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup. Dinnington were 2-0 winners against Denaby Main, Jay Atkin giving them a 13th minute lead, Kieran Mortimer the second midway through the second half. Elite had Brodey Burden to thank as hissecond half hat trick gave them a 3-2 win at Dodworth Miners Welfare, the goals coming in the 68th, 81st and 90th minutes. AFC Bentley came close to joining them after taking Step 6 Swallownest MW to penalties, Ash White’s 84th minute equaliser making the final score 1-1. Unfortunately their penalty taking skills deserted them at the wrong time as they failed with their first three while Swallownest didn’t. Long Bennington had a two hour journey to Manby in the Lincs FA Junior Cup, reaching the third round after a 4-1 win with goals from Jacob Baker, Theo Barretto, Jenson Longden and Jack Marshall.

MIDWEEK MATCHES

Just a couple of midweek games, both in the Camper UK Premier South Division.  Bakewell Town’s six match unbeaten run ended at Holbrook Sports, who came from behind twice to win 3-2. Bakewell were in front after 9 minutes, R’Nial Brisset the scorer, Josh House equalising with 15 played. The visitorswere back in front by half time thanks to a Ben Brown strike two minutes from the interval. Nathan Bennett levelled the scores again on the hour markbefore Brad Daly hit the decider ten minutes from time. Mansfield Hosiery Mills have to go back to late August for their last win, and despite taking the lead halfway through the first period, lost their way in the second going down 5-1 at home to WirksworthIvanhoe whose goals came from Lewis Hughes and Ewan Sutherill with two each and Lewis Higton, Connor Barnes scoring for Mills.

WEEKEND MATCHES                                                                                                  Mansfield Hosiery Mills were back in action just 48 hours after their midweek outing, suffering another heavy defeat, this time at the hands of Blidworth Welfare, the final score 8-0. The match was a personal triumph for Blidworth striker Henry Eastgate who found the net five times with Tris Burrell scoring twice and Colby Porter once. The result dropped Mills into the bottomthree, changing places with their opponents. At the other end of the table, Borrowash Victoria are fourpoints behind leaders Graham Street Prims with twogames in hand after a 2-0 defeat of Mickleover RBL, Josh Lee scoring both in the 11th and 50th minutes. Selston consolidated third place with their fifth straight win, a 5-0 thumping of Mickleover Reserves. A frustrating first half ended with just a 43rd minute Ty Short goal to show for their efforts, but the second half proved more profitable for the visitors, three goals in eight minutes either side of the hour mark from Liam Taylor, Jack Cockram and Wayne Cookfollowed by the fifth on 79 minutes by Brad Dalywhich sealed the win. Graham Street Primsmaintained the gap at the top, but Wirksworth Ivanhoe pushed them all the way, the only goal of the game scored by Prims’ Aston Harvey after 70 minutes. Melbourne Dynamo were among the goals this week, putting six past Derby Singh Brothers with just one in return. Tyler Withers and Isaac Nkrumah each got doubles, Ollie Grimshaw and Elliott Dawson adding one each with Alex Steadman getting Singhs on to the scoresheet. Mickleover Athletic keptup their recent improvement with a 2-0 win at Linby Colliery. Both goals came in the first half, Jamie Laird’s 7th minute goal followed by a second twenty minutes later from Kaelin Cole- Tonks. FC Sunnyhill are finding their feet after a slow start. They defeatedHolbrook St Michaels 4-2. On target for Sunnyhill were Kaylan Anderson, Clark Belmore, Lewis Wilson and Myles Sturges, Holbrook’s reply coming from Josh Gregory and Anri Burmeisters. Gresley Rovers Reserves won 3-1 at Cromford & Wirksworth Town thanks to two goals from Evan Wynne and one for Alex Pott. Cromford’s Simon Scully scoring his first goal for the club.

In Friday’s game in the Premier North Division, neighbours RHP Sports and Ollerton Town were bothleft thinking they should have won after an entertaining goalless draw. Both sides spurned multiple chances, and a point apiece was probably the right outcome. Harworth Colliery finally relinquished their 100% record, Staveley Reserves going home with the points from a 2-0 win, the scorers Louis Hall on 64 minutes and Ollie Cooper six minutes later. Kinsley Boys still top the table, level on points with Dinnington Town but with a game in hand. Kinsley travelled to Teversal, winning 2-0,  Lucas Stubbs scoring five minutes before half time, the game not really settled until Rio Cooke’s second nine minutes from the final whistle. Dinnington’s win was more comfortable as they put five past Elite AFC. Corey Glaves hit the opener on 16 minutes, Nathan Jessop doubling the score five minutes later. Logan Liggins made it three after 39 minutes, second half strikes from Tom Bishop and Kieran Mortimer in the space of four minutes confirming the inevitable. Missed chances almost cost Hatfield Town valuable points in their game with Rossington Main Reserves. The one they did score came from Harrison Mercer in the 27th minute though they were indebted to keeper Elis Pattison who saved a 35th minute penalty before blocking the follow up, keeping Hatfield in third spot in the table. Glapwell conceded a 10th minute goal in their match with Burngreave United, Hassan Mohammed’s shotrebounding from the underside of the bar, Jacob Furness equalising just three minutes later. Glapwejj then took the lead in fortunate circumstances as a clearance from the visiting keeper rebounded off Evan Palmer. The second half saw Burngreave apply almost constant pressure which brought only a single goal from Jamal Yussuf in the 57th minute, Glapwell somehow escaping with a point.

Abacus Lighting Central Midlands Alliance League Premier Division Roundup October 11th

MIDWEEK MATCHES  Four midweek matches all in the Camper UK Premier South Division with leaders Graham Street Prims extending the lead to four points over Borrowash Vics who have two games in hand. They were, however, made to fight all the way by visitors Mickleover RBL, a 73rd minute goal from Blaise Duruaku proving enough to take all three points. Another game which had implications at the top came at the Parish Hall Ground where Selston moved up into third place    after a 2-1 win against Melbourne Dynamo. Playing at home for the first time this season, Selston fell behind after 16 minutes, Jack Griffiths with the goal for Dynamo. The match was settled by a lightning double from Selston’s Liam Taylor who, after slotting home a 29th minute penalty, headed home what proved to be the winner just a minute later Mickleover Athletic picked up their second consecutive win, this time at the new look Mansfield Hosiery Mills. The match was all but won by half time by which Athletic were already four goals to the good.  The Mills did get one back straight after half time but the visitors had the last word, making the final score 5-1. Cole Hassell grabbed a hat trIck for Mickleover, Kaelin Cole-Tonks and RonnieBonsor with one each, Jack Lewin the scorer for Mills. Holbrook St Michaels had a 2-1 win at Gresley Rovers Reserves thanks to Richard Hanslow and Cairn Gillespie, Nathan Bowen with Gresley’s reply.

WEEKEND MATCHES

FC Sunnyhill went to Town on Friday night, blasting nine past a demoralised Mickleover Reserves. Myles Sturgess led with a hat trick, Lewis Benjamin and LewisWilson got two each with Kaylan Anderson and Leonel Baushi also on the scoresheet. Graham Street Prims were also in a high scoring encounter returning fromHolbrook St Michaels with a 6-3 win under their belts. Goals from Blaize Duruaku in the first twelve minutesgave Prims the perfect start but Joe Brumby on 26 minutes and Nduoma Chilaka ten minutes later broughtthe score level by half time. Duruaku completed his hat trick just before the hour mark, quickly adding a fourth. Richard Hanslow scored for the seventh game in a row for Holbrook to reduce the deficit to one, but very late goals from Alex Seale and Aaron Harvey gave the final scoreline a gloss which certainly didn’t reflect Holbrook’s performance. It was a similar scoreline for second placed Borrowash Victoria as they travelled to Derby Singh Brothers who took the lead through Mario Gomez on 23 minutes. They led for just three minutes before Marcus Tudgay equalised. Two minutes after the interval Tudgay’s second put Vics in front, the lead extended by Max Tolley, Jacob Hawksworth and Tudgay’s thirdputting Vics out of sight. They received a reminder that the game’s not over until the final whistle as Gomez and Jagjeet Dhillon scored in the dying minutes, just a little too late. Selston, in third spot, also took maximum points, getting the better of Holbrook Sports 3-1. In front of a bumper crowd of 341, Jack Cockram struck after 4 minutes which was followed by a second from Liam Taylor after half an hour. Holbrook fought back after the break, Josh House pulling one back on 53 minutes Selston were unable to breathe easily until the 79thminute when Cockram finally put daylight between the sides. Melbourne Dynamo dropped more points at Tideswell as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bakewell Town, Tom Robe’s goal for the hosts matched by Dynamo’s Jack Goodband. A late goal at Linby Colliery gave the home side the edge over Gresley Reserves. Linby went in front with a Rory Smith goal on 36 minutes, Alex Pott with an equaliser after 55. As a draw seemed inevitable, Ashden Bernard grabbed the winner with three minutes to go. Mansfield Hosiery Mills’ woes continued as they went down 4-0 at home to Cromford and Wirksworth Town, Scott Taylor (2), Ben Cartwright and Matt Wilkinson with the goals.

The Premier North fixture list was reduced to just four games which ended in three clearcut results and a goalless draw, Burngreave United and SJR Worksop failing to trouble the scorers. The other three saw the top three teams keeping clean sheets and improving their goal differences. As so often Jordan Turner caused most problems for the opposition, this time AFC Bentley, opening the scoring with a second minute penalty and, after Tom Bishop had added number two a couple of minutes later, blasted a four minute hat trick which included another spot kick, Dinnington reaching the interval with a five goal lead. Two more followed in the second half, Cory Glaves scoring on 67 and Craig Nelthorpe having the last word four minutes from time making the final score 7-0. Harworth Colliery, still to drop a point this season, had potentially stronger opposition in fourth placed Teversal, but rose to the occasion, with a 6-0 win. The goals were shared between six players, Billy Stafford‘s 21st minute penalty followed three minutes by Rob Singer. The match was, to all intents and purposes over by half time as Teversal were blitzed by three goals in eight minutes, Joe Greens coring on 39 minutes, Dec Heath on 42 and Danny Boulton two minutes into added time. As is often the case, the second half was less frenetic, the only addition to the score coming from Callum Edwards twenty midway through the half. Kinsley Boys were also among the goals, Rossington Main Reserves on the end of a 5-0 scoreline. Harrison Morley was quick off the mark, giving Kinsley a 5th minute lead, which Jack White doubled on the half hour. Rossington contributed an own goal, Kyle Rose and Nathan Harrop scoring in the second half to cement Kinsley’s place in the top three.

Abacus Lighting Central Midlands Alliance League and Cup Roundup – October 4th

The dreaded “ Postponed due to pitch conditions” raised its ugly head for the first time this season with both Friday night games off along with a handful on Saturday.

The one midweek league match ended in stalemate, Holbrook Sports and Melbourne Dynamo failing to find the net. Three ties in the Sheffield Senior Cup finished with mixed fortunes for our clubs. On the plus side Dinnington Town came away from Northern Counties side Nostell Miners Welfare with a 4-1 win, two goals each from Nathan Jessop andJordan Turner guiding them into the next round. Harworth Colliery tasted defeat for the first time this season but there was no disgrace as they faced Step 5 Emley, currently third in the Northern Counties Premier Division. The final score was 3-1, Emley scoring twice in the first half and again early in the second before Charley Reeve pulled one back on 53 minutes. Burngreave United faced Barnsley’s Under 21 team, and perhaps not surprisingly went down 6-1, with five coming before half time, Danai Rhule getting a second half consolation goal.
