RICHARD LANE’S 2025/26 ROUND UP
Abacus Lighting Central Midlands Alliance Roundup – August 16th
MIDWEEK GAMES
Normal service was resumed for several teams in the Camper UK Premier South Division on Tuesday evening. Following three home defeats, Melbourne Dynamo finally rediscovered the art of scoring, hammering Mickleover Athletic 6-0. Tyler Withers scored twice and there were also goals for Jack Griffiths, Jake Peverley, Elliott Dawson and Jack Goodband. Linby Colliery also recovered some of last season’s form with a 4-1 win at Borrowash Victoria. The scores were level at half time Zach Hamilton’s 32nd minute opener for Linby wiped out ten minutes later by Lee Hillier. The destination of the points was settled by three second half goals, Ash Bernard with the second on 55 minutes, Hamilton’s second putting daylight between the teams before Ethan Fells rounded things off a couple of minutes from the final whistle. Another of last season’s leading group to take their first points of the season was Cromford & Wirksworth Town who beat Selston 3-1. Ben Cartwright struck early for Cromford, giving them a 12th minute lead, Scott Taylor making it two after 27 minutes. A fortunate own goal in the 68th minute gave Selston a route back into the game which was blocked almost immediately by Matt Wilkinson to secure the win. At the top of the table at this early stage with four straight wins are Mickleover RBL who won 2-0 for the third time, their latest victims local rivals Mickleover Reserves, the goals coming from Emilio de Abreu and Harry Atwal. Derby Singh Brothers also have a 100% record, winning for the third time, also 2-0, at Gresley Rovers Reserves, Devante Ramsey and Enmanuel Nnaji the scorers.
In the Premier North Harworth Colliery opened their season in front of a crowd of 176 who saw them dominate their opponents AFC Phoenix, the final score 6-1. Things looked ominous for the visitors as early as the 4th minute when Billy Stafford got Harworth’s opener, and although Jack Charlesworth took advantage of a defensive mistake on 25 minutes, Rob Singer put Harworth back in front with 33 played. Two goals in two minutes from Callum Edwards just before half time put the game to bed. Declan Heath added a fifth three minutes into the second half. Phoenix succeeded in stemming the flow until ten minutes from time when Singer got his second but itlooks as if they might be in for another “challenging” season. After Saturday’s close run thing, Dinnington Town again found themselves in arrears by half-timeat Worksop Town Reserves. This time, however, proved to be less nerve-wracking as three second-half goals rescued the points. Chae Whitman-Brown got the goal for the Tigers after half an hour, Connor Peace drawing the scores level two minutes into the second half before a Brad Kerr double on 52 and 72 minutes proved decisive. The game between SJR Worksop and Ollerton Town ended in a goalless draw. On Wednesday evening Yorkshire Main defeated Hatfield Town 2-1 in another match which attracted a three figure crowd. Brandon Burke and Ash Cantrill were the scorers for Main,Callum Verhees replying for Hatfield. There was late excitement in the game between RHP and Glapwell. RHP shadedthe first half but a combination of poor finishing, a tight defence backed up bysuperb saves from Glapwell keeper Daniel Church kept it goalless. The second half was end to end, the deadlock finally broken by RHP sub Keanu Jones on 83minutes which looked to be the winneruntil the 90th minute when Luke McKernan took advantage of a poor clearance to blast home the equaliser. Teversal were 3-1 winners at home to Staveley Reserves. Josh Parfitt’s 11th minute goal gave Tevie a lead which lasted until the 35th minute when Josh Nicholls levelled the scores. Nathan Hadley put the hosts back in front a minute into the second half, Parfitt’s second, two minutes from time, confirming the win.
WEEKEND MATCHES
Teversal top the table after their fourth win from five, their latest win by three clear goals at AFC Bentley. Josh Parfitt got the first two minutes before the break, Tyron Macaskill doubling the score on the hour, sub Dylan Thornley dispelling any doubts ten minutes before the end. Dinnington Town are right behind them after a 5-1 win over Rossington Main Reserves who went in at half time a goal in front thanks to Mateo Dumitrescu. Whoever delivered the motivational speech during the interval did a fine job as Dinnington were in front just three minutes after the restart, Brad Kerr and Steve Taylor both finding the net with Taylor repeating the feat shortlyafterwards before another two in the closing stages from Corey Glaves and Taylor put a bit of gloss on the final score. Glapwell’s meeting with Yorkshire Main certainly was one to stay in the memory. It looked positively grim for the home team as Main went in three goals to the good at half time, Cody Ruddy struck in the 11thminute, Daniel Boulton adding two in two minutes just before half time. From what looked a hopeless position Glapwell got one back on 50 minutes Simeon Marbridge scoring with a 25 yard free kick The hosts were still two goals adrift as time ran out, but were thrown a lifeline in the 89th minute, Marbridge getting his second from the penalty spot. Amazingly with the game entering the third minute of stoppage time, they were awarded another spot kick which Marbridge again converted to give him a hat trick and Glapwell an unlikely point. AFC Phoenix lived up to their name as they rose from Tuesday night’s ashes to take an invaluable three points from their 3-2 with SJR Worksop. Sheldon Jordan was the hero, scoring all three, his goals coming after three minutes of the second half and on 77 and 80 minutes. The party was almost ruined as SJR scored twice in added time through Peter Scott and Joe Bean. Hatfield Town had a 2-0 win in an uninspiring match at home to RHP Sports, Callum Verhees scoring in each half. Kinsley Boys began their season on a positive note, beating Staveley Reserves 3-1. Lucas Stubbs continued from where he left off last season with a double, Corey Woodward also on target, Staveley replying with a Charlie Bingham goal.Worksop Town Reserves made the short trip to Ollerton Town, returning with the points after a 2-1 win. Luke Abdy put them in front a minute before half time, Alex Russell with the second after 57 minutes. Ollerton could only get one in reply, Keegan Burton scoring with 73 minutes on the clock.
Friday night’s game in the Premier South resulted in a fourth straight win for Graham Street Prims, but only just, FC Sunnyhill proving worthy opposition andwere extremely unfortunate not to take at least a point from the game. As it was, Prims had the narrowest of wins, a 64thminute penalty, put away by Alex Seale, was the only goal of the game. Derby Singh Brothers have also won four from four, but again were made to work for it, visitors Linby Colliery taking a first half lead with a Ewan Gibson penalty, Singhs taking the points with two quick goals midway through the second half from Marvellous Onabirekhanlen and Raza Mughal. Judging by the photo Linby did have the consolation of a delicious curryafter the match! Joint leaders Mickleover RBL didn’t have such a good day, beaten 3-0 by a Melbourne Dynamo side who look to have recovered last season’s form after a poor start to the season. Scorers for Melbourne were Jack Griffiths, Dylan Muir and Jack Goodband. Mansfield Hosiery Mills made it three on the bounce, with a 3-2 win against a Bakewell Town side playing their first game of the season. Stuart Baker gave Bakewell a dream start, scoring in the 3rd minute. Mills levelledthrough Kayden Wilmot-Lowe before Matt Kelcey’s 25th minute strike gave the hosts a half time lead. Mills dominated the second half, taking the points with further goals from Matt Dickinson and Tom Suter. A mixed day for Blidworth striker Ben Copestake who scored a first half hat trickfollowed by a second half red card against visitors Cromford & Wirksworth Town. Copestake got his first on 14 minutes, Joe Geeson equalising five minutes later, two in four minutes just before half time completing Copestake’s treble. Ben Cartwright put Cromford back in the game from the penalty spot, a deflected Matt Wilkinson shot six minutes from time making the final score 3-3. Two goals in each half saw Wirksworth Ivanhoe to an impressive 4-0 win against Selston, Tom Mellor scoring twice with one apiece for Harley Taylor and Dom Mellor. The Holbrook derby went in favour of Sports who beat St Michaels 3-1. Nathan Bennettgave Sports a 15th minute lead, the rest of the goals coming in a short burst midway through the second half. John Guy levelled for St Michaels on 56 minutes, Alex Birch putting Sports back in front two minutes later before Bennett got his second with exactly an hour on the clock. There was an unusual occurrence at Borrowash where father and son both scored. Marcus and Mason got a goal each for Vics with Jordan Hicking’s second half wrapping up a 3-0 win against Mickleover Reserves,
The Macron Store Nottingham Onematches began with games in all four groups.
Division One North, reduced to just nine teams, had two matches, FC United of Sheffield got off to a flyer beating Armthorpe Development 7-0. MIDWEEK MATCHES
There were just a handful of matches on Tuesday and Wednesday nights in the opening week. In the Camper UK Premier North Ollerton Town somehow had to settle for a point from their home match with Glapwell. They dominated the first 45 minutes but despite creating countless scoring chances, a combination ofwayward finishing and solid defending meant that half time arrived with the match still goalless. The deadlock was broken by debutant Jack Noble as thehosts finally found the net on 63 minutes. Glapwell upped their game and were rewarded with an equaliser from Liam Dawson in the 83rd minute. The visitors almost nicked it in the dying minutes keeper Gareth Briggs pulling off a superb save to ensure the points were shared. Teversal seem to have taken to life in the North division. They beat Worksop Town Reserves 1-0, their second win in four days. Last season they didn’t manage that until the end of November in theirsixteenth match. The decider arrived just seven minutes from time, the scorer Dillon Gregory. Much fancied Dinnington Town began their quest against last season’s fourth placed side, Hatfield Town opening their account after 35 minutes through Brad Kerr. The game was more open after the interval, the home side adding to their lead on 51 minutes by Jordan Pilling, the visitors rueing their lack of composure in front of goal. A third from Nathan Jessop in the 78th minute finally ensured the destination of the points. .Meanwhile, in the Premier South last season’s runners-up, Melbourne Dynamo find themselves pointless after their opening two home matches as they went down 3-1 against Borrowash Victoria. The damage was done in the first half, Josh Lee giving Vics a 10th minute lead,Lee Hillier adding number two with 26 minutes on the clock. Lee’s second five minutes before half time made a Melbourne comeback unlikely, Isaac Nkrumah’s 79th minute reply was barely a consolation. Linby Colliery bounced back from their opening day defeat with a 5-1 win over Mickleover Reserves. A 22nd minute opener from Ethan Fells was followed by a Zach Hamilton goaleight minutes later, Ewan Gibson’s third a couple of minutes into the second half probably the killer. After Ashdon Bernard hit Linby’s fourth on 64, Mickleover made it on to the scoreboard thanks to Joe Moore (81 minutes), Linby having the last word with Paddy Stefaniak concluding the entertainmentfour minutes from time. Graham Street Prims built on their opening day successwith a 4-1 defeat of Blidworth Welfare. Jack Havron set the ball rolling after 15 minutes, Prims lead not extended until two minutes before the hour, George Lynam with number two. Ryan Seale, midway through the half and Alex Seale, three minutes from time made it a comfortable evening for the hosts, though Dillon Hodgkinson prevented a clean sheet just before the final whistle. For the second time in four days defensive errors cost Mansfield Hosiery Mills dear in their home match with Mickleover RBL. Emilio de Abreu and Dean Oliver took full advantage and, despite a much improved second half display from the Mills, the score remained unchanged, the Legion winning 2-0.
SATURDAY’S MATCHES
There were some surprising scorelines in the Premier South on Saturday. Melbourne Dynamo’s miserable start to the season continued as they fell to their third home defeat in a week. Wirksworth Ivanhoe were the latest beneficiaries, a single James Colebourne goal after 25 minutes enough to take the points. In contrast Graham Street Prims made it three wins from three, showing no mercy to a severely depleted Cromford & Wirksworth, whose subs bench contained just the management team. running in five goals without reply. The visitors started brightly but fell behind to an Aaron Harvey goal on 23 minutes followed by a top quality strike after half an hour from AlexSeale who has scored in all three of Prims’ matches so far. Tristan Ellison got number three immediately after half time. As the visitors tired, Haaris Maqsood and Liam Gregg took advantage to complete the scoring. Derby Singh Brothers had a comfortable 6-2 win against Mickleover Athletic. Sahil Bhagawan scored twice with Emanuel Nnaji, Bryn Beresford, Troy Carty and Mario Gomez also on the scoresheet,Hayden Simpson and Dom Nurse with Athletic’s reply. Mansfield Hosiery Mills have rediscovered the art of inconsistency which they perfected last season, travelling to Linby Colliery and, after two defeats, coming away with the points, a deflected Billy Brooks shot getting the Mills off the mark. FC Sunnyhill took their first point in the Premier Division, goals from Leon Baush and Owen Slater giving them a 2-2 draw with Holbrook Sports, whose scorers were Archie Meyer and Nathan Bennett from the penalty spot. Blidworth Welfare haven’t had the start they would have hoped for after switching to the South. Two first half goals from set pieces by James Stafford and Billy Freeborough were enough to give Mickleover RBL a 2-1 win, an improved second half displayfrom the visitors bringing a goal for Tris Burrell, but a second wouldn’t come.
In the Premier North the shock result of the day was narrowly avoided as Yorkshire Main entertained Dinnington Town. Brad Kerr gave the visitors a 6thminute lead before Main’s Danny Boulton rewrote the script, equalising on 21 minutes and putting them in front ten minutes later. Kerr levelled the scores three minutes before half time. A minute after the interval Brandon Burke again gave Main the advantage and this time the lead held. With the hosts within four minutes of a famous win, Connor Peace came to Dinnington’s rescue to make the final score3-3. A fiercely contested local derby between Worksop Town Reserves and SJR ended all square at 2-2. A beautifully placed header from Town’s Liam Betts separated the teams at half time, a goal of equal quality from George McKernan five minutes after the break levelling the scores. SJR had the better of things for most of the second half and took a deserved lead after 70 minutes, Louis Colley with the goal. Just when the visitors looked set for maximum points, the Tigers showed they had something left in the tank, Harry Roddis with the equaliser four minutes from time. Hatfield Town spoiled Teversal’s promising start to the season, winning 2-0 thanks to two second half goals. Despite both sides having chances, the game was still goalless at the interval. The introduction of Callum Verhees as a first half sub made the difference as he first set up Finley Watts to open the scoring on 57 minutes before getting the second himself in the final minute. A win for Glapwell who edged to a 1-0 win at home to AFC Bentley. The hosts were under the cosh in the opening stages but survived before scoring what turned out to be the all-important goal on 23 minutes, Liam Kamsika’s shot going in via the foot of a post. They took this thin lead into the second and again were put under constant pressure, their goal having a charmed life, but held on to record a useful three points. After Josiah Greaves gave them an 8th minute lead at Staveley Reserves, AFC Phoenix ran out of steam, Staveley’s fitness levels giving them a 3-1 win, Alex Coates, Leo Rimmer and Charlie Bingham with the goals.

The match as a spectacle wasn’t helped by the constant disputing of decisions which belatedly saw two players sin-binned.
On Saturday there were several surprising results jn the Premier South, the three teams who finished immediately below champions South Normanton last season all losing. Selston showed their intent to return to step six as soon as possible with a 4-0 win at Linby Colliery. Oscar Supple gave Vics a 9th minute lead, a Josh Lee penalty on 71 minutes guaranteeing the points, Sunnyhill unable to finish off several promising moves. Gresley Rovers Reserves defeated Mansfield Hosiery Mills 4-1 with Nathan Bowen and Alex Pott both scoring twice. Defensive lapses from the Mills didn’t help their cause, a goal from Warwick Wood one of the few positives. Mickleover RBL started their season with a 2-0 win against Holbrook St Michaels thanks to goals from Dan Wood and Dean Oliver.
Only four Saturday matches in the Premier North, Hatfield Town picking upwhere they left off last season with a 5-1 defeat of SJR Worksop. RHP came from behind to win their first game in the Premier North beating Yorkshire Main 2-1. The home side created and missed a string of chances in the first half and it looked as if that could prove costly when Brandon Burke lobbed the keeper to give Main the lead six minutes after the restart. The home side, however, dug deep and goals from Aiden Horner on 66 minutes and Kieran Job five minutes later got the Newark side off to a winning start. A depleted AFC Phoenix went down to a 5-2 defeat at home to Worksop Town Reserves Goals from Max Eastwood (2), Ethan Slater, Luke Abdy and Tyreese Bailey-Green ensured the win, Josiah Greaves and Sheldon Gordon the scorers for Phoenix.
