After last Saturday’s almost complete blank when only two matches were played, it was almost back to normal this week with games in the league as well as league and County Cup competitions.
MIDWEEK MATCHES
Tuesday night's match in the Black Dragon Premier North division saw Hatfield Town climb into the top four following a 3-2 defeat of Worksop Town Reserves at Sandy Lane. The Tigers went ahead in the 28th minute, Jamie Mudd the scorer but Hatfield countered, goals from Callum Stockton five minutes later and Finlay Watt on 40 minutes giving them a half time lead. Clayton Cherowbrier put distance between the teams after 56 minutes, Mudd’s second, a 75th minute penalty, not enough to take a point. Blidworth Welfare joined Linby Colliery in the semi finals of the Notts FA Senior Trophy after a 3-1 win against FC Sez at Eastwood. Reilly Hodgkinson’s penalty gave Blidworth a first half lead, Kyle Bacon making it two. The home side then converted another penalty before Liam Carver’s late strike settled the tie. Blidworth will now face a former Central Midlands side, Keyworth United, while Linby will take on Cotgrave. Both of our teams have home advantage with the games scheduled for February 1st
Gresley Rovers went home empty handed after their 130 mile round trip resulted in a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Harworth Colliery in the Abacus Lighting Floodlit Cup. Harvey Smith gave the hosts an 11th minute lead, Gresley’s cause not helped by a red card shortly afterwards. Adam Morrison extended Harworth’s lead three minutes into the second half with Callum Edwards’ goal on 68 minutes seeing the home side safely through.
SATURDAY’S MATCHES
Dinnington kept their narrow advantage over Doncaster City the top of the Premier North table with a 3-0 win at AFC Phoenix. The visitors kept up their push for promotion with goals from Will Eades, Harvey Wilson and Logan Liggins. It was third v fourth at Hatfield Town, with visitors Elite FC surrendering a two goal lead as the match ended in a 2-2 draw. Archie Micklethwaite gave Elite a 19th minute lead, Jacob Swales making it two with an hour played. Almost predictably it was Callum Stockton to the rescue, the prolific striker scoring on 63 and 70 minutes to ensure a point apiece, leaving things at the top unaltered, the match ending on a sour note with three red cards shown at the finai whistle .The Worksop derby was another match in which honours were even, the final score again 2-2. Alex Rogers put the Tigers in front in the 29th minute, Arron Redfern levelling for SJR ten minutes later. Oscar Clark restored Town’s advantage on 74 minutes, but Aaron Pickersgill’s goal in the 80th minute meant the game finished all square. Staveley Reserves took their unbeaten run inleague games to eight as they inflicted a 6-1 home defeat on Yorkshire Main. Josh Nicholls opened the Trojans’ account on 13 minutes but Main were on terms five minutes later, Raul Ciaboata with the equaliser. That was as good as it got for the hosts as Ziah McLaren put Staveley back in front five minutes later, Lewis Imrie getting a third before half time. The visitors extended their lead in the second half with Leo Rimmer and Nicholls scoring before the hour mark, Xavier D’Andrade completing the rout two minutes from time. It was a close run thing at Walesby Lane as ten man Ollerton Town edged past Glapwell 3-2. Ollerton were two up at the break despite having their goalkeeper both sent off and carried off in the early stages. Vlad Nittiss, on 11 minutes and Ash McEwan after 40 the scorers. Cameron Burgin put Glapwell back in contention three minutes after the restart and hit the woodwork twice before Adam Scott seemingly sealed it for Ollerton three minutes from time only for Gabriel Olokoto score within a minute, before time ran out. It also finished 3-2 at Rossington as the home side went down to visitors Blidworth Welfare. Liam Carver, with a penalty, Archie Ward and Ben Copestake were Blidworth’s matchwinners, Jack Ogley and George Noble scoring for Rossington.
In the Premier South division leaders South Normanton were held to a 1-1 draw by Linby Colliery, the Shiners conceding their first goal in five league matches. Both goals came in the first half, Ewan Gibson scoring for Linby on 27 minutes, Billy Whitehead equalising five minutes later. The result was a bonus for second placed Graham Street Prims who took full advantage with a 6-1 defeat of Teversal. There were two goals for Alex Seale and one each from Liam Gregg, Harry Hatfield, Sam Morgan and Marcus Thomas with Sam Jackson scoring for Tevie. The result puts Prims three places behind the leaders with two games in hand. There was a rare win for AFC Normanton who beat Arnold Town 3-2. Arnold got away to the perfect start, Matt Hubbard scoring in the first minute, a lead which lasted until six minutes into the second half when Jak Lightly levelled from the penalty spot. Normanton took the lead with a Joss Kowalski goal, Connor Ward adding a third on 86 minutes before Kyme Mason got Arnold’s second which came too late to rescue a point. The Holbrook derby went emphatically in favour of St Michaels who beat Sports 5-1. A hat trick for Richard Hanslow and one each from Sam Smithurst and Ryan Baker saw StMichaels take the points, Sports replying with a goal from Ewan Barnes. Mickleover RBL went down 4-1 in their home game with Melbourne Dynamo,surprisingly Dynamo’s first league win since mid-September. Isaac Nkrumah, Jack Goodband, Regan Bickerton and Jack Griffiths shared the goals for Melbourne with Martin Bassey getting one back for the Legion. Bakewell Town beat Mickleover Reserves by the odd goal in seven. Mickleover struck in the first minute through Liam Carter before Aaron Maund and Ben Rach gave the home side the advantage, Brodie Carter levelling the scores by half time. Maund restored Bakewell’s lead from the penalty spot, Will Johnson putting them further ahead before Jared Cholerton brought an end to the scoring.Mansfield Hosiery Mills gave away a two goal lead as they drew 2-2 with a revitalised Gresley Rovers Reserves. James Beardow and Grant Mitchell put Mills two up before Gresley rallied in the second half, Bobby Watson scoring twice.
With several teams involved in cup competitions, the Macron Store Nottingham Division One North featured just three matches. Crowle Colts won 2-0 against Bottesford Town 2-0, with Shay Barron and Zach Ford finding the net. Harworth Colliery just got the better of Appleby Frodingham, the final score 4-3. Harvey Penders got a hat trick for Harworth with Patryk Podgorski also on the scoresheet, while Ashley Johnson, Ben Howard and Alfie Comerford got one each for Frod. Evo Sports won 3-1 at Dearne & District. Rory Benn opened the scoring for Evo on 16 minutes, Sam Eades with the second on the stroke of half time. Dearne pulled one back with a penalty on 51 minutes before Oliver Beautyman’s goal midway through the second half sealed the win.
In Division One East Shirebrook Soldiers are beginning to look unstoppable, still unbeaten after eleven games. Their latest victims were Mansfield Hosiery Mills Blue, the final score 7-0 with Ben Charlesworth, Josh Brentnall and Kieran Darby all getting doubles, Tyler Foster with the other one. RHP won 3-1 against second placed Ashland Rovers. Scorers for RHP were Seb Headley, Aiden Horner and Callum Chivers, Nathan Harrison replying for the visitors. Eastwood & Kimberley travelled to Pilsley, returning with the points from a 4-1 win. James Coleman (2), Archie Shooter and Travis Shooter with the goals while Nathan Flint scored for Pilsley. Linby Colliery drew 2-2 with Blidworth Welfare, Charlie Tassi with both goals for Linby.
Mickleover Athletic took advantage of their rivals’ absence on cup duty to go seven points clear at the top of the Division One West table, winning 4-2 at Bakewell Town. Jamie Laird, Alex Lawrence, Josh Warren and Cole Hassell all scored for Athletic, Miles Grigoriou with both for the hosts. There were two goals for Harry Brown and one each from Ellis Parkin and Robbie Slinger as Inter Belper got their best win of the season, 4-0 at Cromford & Wirksworth Town. A single Riley Moore goal for Melbourne Dynamo was enough to take the points in their home game with Holbrook St Michaels.
It was definitely a day to forget for South Division leaders FC Sunnyhill who suffered their first defeat of the season in spectacular fashion, losing their home game with Holbrook Sports 5-1. Tedcole Enabulele scored twice for Sports with Owen Brown, Yann Tresor and Joe Shelby contributing one apiece, Lewis Benjamin’s goal no consolation to Sunnyhill. A hat trick by veteran striker Matt Brian inspired Hemington Hammers’ 6-2 win at Burton United. A goal each for James Fretwell, Max Upchurch and Ash North completed the half dozen. Burton’s Ben Sleight and Ebrima Camara scored for Burton. Stapenhill beat Castle Donington by three clear goals, Josh Johnson with two and Michael Wilson-Denley on target. Baobab United and Burton Hornets drew 1-1 with Umar Hussain’s goal for Baobab cancelled out by Hornets’ Jonathan Dawkins.
A big win for Wirksworth Ivanhoe took them to the top of the Drayton PACS Division Two. They beat Little Eaton 7-0 with a Harley Taylor hat trick backed up by Reece Marshall, Lewis Newman, Kane Saxby and Owen King. Even more goals at Allenton United where the home side lost 6-3 to Rowsley 86. Rowsley were unstoppable in the first half, going in at half time five goals to the good after George Hallam’s double in the first twenty minutes was followed by a spell of three goals in three minutes from Josh Raybould, Noah Wayne and Lincoln Slater. Allenton staged a revival in the second half, goals from JaydenCozens and Taylor Quenby followed by late strikes by Rowsley’s Ross Bedford and Quenby’s second giving the final score a more respectable look. Aston Village won 2-1 at Ashover, their goals scored by Adam Chapman and Karsen James, while Markeaton and Ashland Rovers played out an entertaining goalless draw.
Three more teams made progress in the Division One Cup. Long Benningtonvisited Armthorpe Welfare, racing to a 6-1 win. Alfie Morley and Kenzie Foat put the visitors two up in the first eight minutes, Morley then scoring either side of the interval to complete his hat trick. Finn Kirke and Corey Evans added one each to the total, Armthorpe getting on the scoresheet with a goal from Panashe Nemaruru. Borrowash Vics went through 2-0 against Punjab United, Sam Allsopp and Samee Hussain with the goals. Penalties decided the third tie, Little Eaton eliminating Sleetmoor United 7-6. The match had ended 3-3 with Oli Hill(2) and Will Lathwood’s goals for Sleetmoor matched by Little Eaton’s Olly Dann, George Cooper and Keelan Rockley.
A good day for CMAL teams in the various County Cup competitions. Wirksworth Ivanhoe reached the final of the Derbyshire Divisional Cup North but it took penalties to finally eliminate Division One side Rowsley 86 after a goalless draw, Wirksworth going through 4-3. Derby Singh Brothers are also finalists, this time in the South section, beating Belper United Reserves 5-1 Scorers for Singhs were William and James Grewal Pollard, Jagjeet Dhillon, Mario Gomez and Ibraheem Suliman with Archie Williams the Belper goalscorer, Heanor Reserves just missed out on a semi finals of the same competition losing 3-2 to Newhall United’s first team. Ryan Cumberland and Josh Jennison with Heanor’s goals. Three wins out of three in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Saturday Trophy. Bessacarr won 3-1 at Scisset, Jordan Wilkinson, Beau Bailey and Brett Lucas scoring. SJR Worksop’s Development team beat Houghton Main Over 35’s 4-3 with a goal each for Taylor Thackery, Matty Templeton, Mason Gee and Theo Weaver. Kinsley Boys also saw off an Over 35 team, this time from Doncaster Elite, the final score 8-0.
